Basic Land Navigation 7/18/26

Learn Land-Nav like an infantryman! Land Navigation is a perishable skill that ALL prepared citizens and minutemen should know as much as they know their rifle. This class is a great introduction to the basics you must learn to be effective in the field! This training will take place in the field at a public national park. 

What you will learn:

• How to properly read a compass
• How to orient and read a map
• How to identify your location on your map
• How to plot coordinates 
• Establish a pace count
• Calculating distance between points 

What you will need:

• Backpack 
• Plenty of water
• Snacks
• Toiletries
• Compass
• Weather items (rain gear, bug spray, hat, etc)
• Comfortable hiking footwear
• Willingness to learn
• Child like sense of wonder
